Police in Luweero have arrested a 25 year old woman for beating her 10 year old sister to death.
Jacline Nasuuna allegedly beat Aidah Nankya to death accusing her of stealing her 500 shillings.
Nasuuna however denies beating her sister to death. Although the neighbors allege that Nasuuna beat the young girl to death, she claims the sister died a natural death.
Nasuuna is being detained at Wobulenzi Police Station as investigations into the murder continue.

Bukenya can not win me in elections - Mbabazi

The Secretary General of the ruling National Resistance Movement government (NRM), Amama Mbabazi has doubted whether Uganda’s Vice President, Prof. Gilbert Bukenya can win him in party elections.
Bukenya officially declared to stand against Amama Mbabazi for the position of NRM Secretary General on Saturday in Kampala.
Mbabazi says Bukenya cannot win him in party elections because the two politicians have the same ability.
Mbabazi says Ugandans in NRM know that Mbabazi can deliver, Bukenya can deliver; none is a better performer than the other so there is no need to replace Mbabazi.
Bukenya on Saturday told people in Kampala that he wanted to utilise his mobilisation skills and closeness to people to build NRM as a mass party.
The Vice President cites his upland rice scheme and the cottage industry projects as some of his key achievements.

Makerere University guild presidential campaigns ends on Monday March 22nd, 2010 and elections takes place on Tuesday March 23rd, 2010.
But one of the Guild aspirants, Otteran Tayebwa has been arrested over a rumour he allegedly circulated that he had gone missing.
Tayebwa, a second-year Computer Science student is detained at the Rapid Response Unit head offices in Kireka , a Kampala suburb over charges of giving false information.
Police say it arrested Tayebwa on Friday last week from a hideout in Bunamwaya, Wakiso district.

Mustafa Batanyenda, the Rukungiri man who was seriously wounded by a marauding elephant in September 2009 wants 800 million shillings as compensation package from Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA). But compensation package is not provided for in Uganda Wildlife Act.
Batanyenda says UWA failed to protect and tame its elephant something that resulted him to sustain broken jaws.

Alcohol business booms in Uganda

Bars in Uganda have continued to make profits in selling waragi (alcohol) wrapped in sachets despite a ban on consumption of these sprits.
The liquor was banned last year following so many people who died after consuming poisonous waragi.
A number of bars Ultimate Media sampled last week across the country sold sachets of waragi and said they were making profits.
The bar operators and owners say the ban on consumption of sachet waragi affected them only during the time when the drink was killing customers on daily basis. The bar operators sale waragi brands like coffee sprit, Obama gin, Beckham waragi, loyal gin, royal vodika and 3R Zed among others.

Water scarcity hits Sudan

Prolonged drought and water scarcity have hit most areas of Southern Sudan.
Hundreds of people of Southern Sudan are moving far and wide in search for water and food. The most affected by the water scarcity are the herdsmen and farmers who have started losing their animals and crops to the drought.
David Malpiny, the Sudanese Police Officer in charge of Kaya and Yei tells Ultimate Media that some people move over 10 miles in search for water and green pasture.

Police deploys over Buganda morning week

The anti riot and regular police have been deployed in Kasubi and other areas of Kampala ahead of the start of the official mourning week in Buganda region over the burning of Kasubi tombs.
The mourning week begins on March 22nd and ends on 26th March 2010.
The Inspector General of Police, Maj. Gen. Kale Kayihura says they have deployed because they anticipate some politicians in Kampala might use the week to disrupt peace.
“When insecurity come police has the responsibility of ensuring law and order,” the police boss says.
Kayihura however says police doesn’t stop anyone from morning the burning of Kasubi tombs.

Uganda Peoples Defence Forces (UPDF) is still pursuing LRA rebels led by Joseph Kony in the Central African Republic.
The Minister of Defence, Dr. Crispus Kiyonga says the Ugandan army cannot sit and watch Kony reorganising his criminals to maim and kill Africans.
Kiyonga says the Central African Republic authorized UPDF to pursue Kony and his fighters in their country.
Recently a combined garrison from the Democratic Republic of Congo, Southern Sudan and Uganda attacked LRA camps in Garamba forests in DRC and destroyed Kony’s main hideouts.
The attack on LRA rebels sent Kony and his fighters to the Central African Republic.

SDP disowns MP Mabikke

The opposition Social Democratic Party (SDP) has disowned the Member of Parliament for Makindye East, Michael Mabikke (pictured).
Mabikke has been referring to himself as the President of SDP. The latest was on Friday last week when he introduced himself to journalists at Parliament as the ‘President of SDP.’
SDP officials say Mabikke is a patron of SDP but not it’s President General.
They say the President of SDP is Hamiddu Senyondo. The Vice President of SDP, George Kigozi says Mabikke is not on the list of SDP officials certified by the Electoral Commission.
Franked by the Secretary General of SDP, David Kyosira and SDP president, Hamidu Senyondo at Fido Dido Restaurant in Kampala, Kigozi warned Mabikke to stop referring to himself as SDP President if he wants to avoid being dragged in courts of law over impersonation.

IMF to support Uganda for more three years

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has proposed to support Uganda for more three years.
The new IMF programme to support Uganda in intended to help it plan for an influx of oil revenues.
The IMF says program is not going to be facilitated as a loan but just to help Uganda strengthen its monetary and fiscal policies.
The IMF Director in charge of Uganda, Martine Guerguil says the programme will help Uganda deepen its financial markets and better plan for incoming oil revenues. The programme kicks off in May 2010.

personal gains.

Bamwoze said the people of Budiope have been exploited enough by political, civic and religious leaders who have amassed wealth at the expense of the locals.

excitement of a new district.

The Ministry of Tourism, Trade and Industry has donated a Rural Information System Project worth millions of shillings to Wamala Union in Mityana to empower them access relevant market information using ICT technology.
The system will also link the Union to Uganda Commodity exchange and will improve on the bargaining position of producers and sellers of Agricultural commodities.
According to Fred Ahimbisibwe, the Senior Cooperatives Officer in the ministry, who also represented the Registrar at the system launch at the Union offices in Mityana Town, it’s a mandate of the Ministry to formulate and support strategies that promote and ensure expansion and diversification of trade, cooperatives, environmentally sustainable industrialization appropriate technology to generate wealth and benefit the community socially and economically.

Weather experts warn of more rain

Weather experts have warned of continued heavy rains despite a rise in temperatures these days.
Heavy rains were experienced in various parts of the country early this month including Bududa where the rains resulted in land slides that killed over 90 people.
The Senior Communications officer Meteorology, Jackson Rwakishaija says as earlier warned, heavy rains are to increase in most parts of the country.
He however notes that Eastern region will register the highest amount of rains.

Kampala City Council has developed a new master plan to start managing its sewerage.
The Mayor of Kampala, Hajji Nasser Sebaggala says this new master plan is aimed at improving and maintaining major drainage outlets in Kampala.
Sebaggala says Kampala also wants to ensure that all sewerage is treated before being released into main channels to avoid contaminating other water bodies.
The city Mayor also says the council is about to evict all people who have encroached on wetlands around Lake Victoria.

Despite sexual violence being a big crime in Uganda, First lady Mrs. Janet Museveni says the practice is till high in Karamoja sub region.
She says female genital mutilation and courtship rape are still widely cherished in Karamoja.
In most parts of Karamoja, uncircumcised girls are considered ‘not women enough.’
In a press statement issued in Kampala today, Mrs Museveni says the government is doing whatever is possible to curb sexual violence in Karamoja.
Mrs Museveni who is also the State Minister for Karamoja says the government has set up projects in Karamoja aimed at eradicating poverty.
